Jean Cloquet

In addition, he has extensive experience in liability and insurance law, disputes between business partners and shareholders, as well as in commercial contracts, acquisitions of commercial funds and share transfers, and commercial agreements such as distribution, agency, execution and attachment law, as well as an interest in procedural law and (corporate) criminal law.
He mainly assists entrepreneurs (commercial enterprises and liberal professions) as well as private individuals.
Jean Cloquet joined MDP in 2018 after 17 years at a Ghent-based cabinet, mainly active in business and corporate law. H
Since 1 December 2013, he has been a deputy judge at the Business Court of Ghent, Ghent division.
Jean Cloquet is also a member of the Board of Directors of the non-profit organization I-Prof, the Interprofessional Association of Notaries, Lawyers, and Practitioners of a Financial Profession.
Since 23 April 2025, he has been officially accredited as a mediator with a specialization in civil and commercial matters (accreditation number Federal Mediation Commission 5031 - https://fbc-cfm.be).
He is convinced of the value and importance of mediation as a constructive, sustainable, socially valuable, and cost-efficient way to resolve conflicts, and aims to contribute to this by applying his expertise and skills as an accredited mediator.
Throughout his professional career, Jean Cloquet has gained extensive experience as a lawyer (since 1995) and deputy judge (since 2013).
He obtained his law degree from Ghent University in 1995.
In addition, he has successfully completed the required training courses, including the basic mediation training and the specialization in civil and business law (NEW DEAL ACADEMY).
His motivation to work as an accredited mediator stems from a strong belief that conflicts should be resolved in a respectful and balanced manner, where all parties involved are heard and understood.
Particular importance is attached to neutrality, empathy, and a solution-oriented approach—core values that are essential in mediation practice.
In recent years, the lawyers at MDP Advocaten have already gained substantial practical experience in a range of mediation processes within civil law, but especially in business-related matters.
This experience has further strengthened skills in active listening, negotiation, and guiding parties through complex situations.
Jean Cloquet is therefore available to act as an accredited mediator in pending cases where mediation is chosen, both in judicial and out-of-court contexts.
