Jos Mertens is mainly involved with providing advice, transactions and disputes regarding company and association law, M&A, property and property promotion, contract law and national and international arbitration.
Jos Mertens is a licentiate in law at the University of Ghent (1974) and gained a special licence in European law at the University of Ghent (1975).
He has also taken seminars at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris (Institute of International Business Law in Practice: International Construction Contract (November 1986) and International Arbitration (October 1988))
Jos Mertens has been a lawyer at the Ghent Bar since 1974. He is a founding partner at MDP.
He is regularly involved as an arbitrator in national and international arbitration cases.
Jos Mertens was an insolvency practitioner for many years.
He was also a Belgian member of the Committee on Company Law of the C.C.B.E. (the Council of the Bars and Law Societies of the European Community).
He was also the chairman of the European branch of the Legal Netlink Alliance - Lawyers Worldwide, a Global Organization of Independent Law Firms.
He has also been a deputy judge at the Commercial Court of Ghent, Ghent Division, since 1987.
Jos Mertens is also a founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the non-profit I-Prof, Interprofessional Association of Notaries, Lawyers and Accountants.
